Woman charged in Biloxi embezzlement case had prior arrest in booster club theft
A Mississippi Coast woman charged in an embezzlement case in Biloxi was out of jail on a bond on another charge of embezzlement in Jones County, Jones County Sheriff’s Sgt. Patrick Oster said.
Biloxi police arrested Gladys Renee Herrington, 47, on Monday for allegedly embezzling nearly $15,000 from a business on Eisenhower Drive in Biloxi. Biloxi police did not identify the business involved.
On Wednesday, Oster confirmed that deputies there arrested the former resident of Ellisville last year following a Jan. 5, 2025, report of her embezzling in excess of $25,000 while serving as treasurer of the South Jones Touchdown Club.
Herrington pleaded not guilty to that offense and is out of jail on a $5,000 bond pending a grand jury review of the case for an indictment, Oster said Wednesday.
In that case, Oster said an investigation there began in January 2025 after an official with the booster club reported unusual transactions on the booster club account.
According to a report from the Laurel Leader Call, Herrington allegedly used the stolen money to buy items at Walmart, on Amazon, at restaurants and elsewhere, and also wrote out checks for cash that she allegedly used for her own expenses.
In the Biloxi case, an investigator said Herrington is accused of embezzling $14,881.32 from a business in the 200 block of Eisenhower Drive.
At the time, Herrington as part of her job was in charge of handling cash and making cash deposits in the business bank account. However, the deposits had not been made. She’s accused of committing the crime between beginning in August 2025 and ending in March.
After her arrest in the Biloxi case, Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain set her bond on the new embezzlement charge at $25,000.
Felony embezzlement carries a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison or $25,000 in fines, or both.
Because the amount allegedly stolen in Jones County exceeded $25,000, that felony embezzlement offense carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years or $25,000 in fines, or both.
Herrington remained jailed in Harrison County on Wednesday.
