The alleged victim of an assault at the Jan. 9 Pearl River Central High School basketball game against Picayune said he was headed back to his seat at the gymnasium when he was attacked, according to records filed in the case.
Brady Andrew Robertson, 20, of Picayune, is out of jail on a $10,000 bond following his arrest Thursday on a felony charge of aggravated assault in the case.
According to the victim, Robertson punched him in his eye, resulting in multiple fractures and a concussion along with nerve damage to his teeth and bruising on his ears, cheek and “other parts of his head.”
After the first punch to his face, the victim alleges that Robertson continued to hit him until someone intervened to stop the attack, the records say.
The victim signed the criminal affidavit in Pearl River County on Wednesday, ultimately leading to the arrest.
The Pearl River County School District first released information about the incident, confirming that a criminal investigation was underway following the fight involving visitors on school property during the basketball game.
Both the alleged victim and Robertson are residents of Picayune.
Pearl River County School District police officers spearheaded the investigation with assistance from the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department, the sheriff said.
The School District did not release any other details other than to say that the incident “has attracted considerable public attention due to the fact that two of the individuals involved are the sons of an elected official from the visiting school district.”
Robertson’s father is a Picayune School Board member.
School Superintendent Jeremy Weir addressed the incident in a statement.
“The Pearl River County School District condemns all acts of violence in the strongest possible term,” he said. “Our athletic events and school campuses must remain safe environments for students, families, and community members. The District will continue to work closely with law enforcement to support the investigation and uphold the standards of safety and accountability expected by our community.”
