The Moss Point Police Department and Mississippi Highway Patrol are searching for two drivers who authorities say drove away after a crash that killed a motorcyclist this week on Interstate 10.

The crash Wednesday night near Highway 63 killed Michael Larry Urbani, 62, of Vancleave. Authorities said a car veered into his motorcycle and an 18-wheeler also hit him.

Police said Friday they were searching for two vehicles: A black Chevrolet Malibu and a white 18-wheeler. Police said they do not know the license plate of the Chevrolet Malibu or the make and model of the 18-wheeler.

Authorities believe the Chevrolet Malibu hit Urbani from behind and made him crash, Moss Point Police Chief Brandon Ashley said in a news release.

Ashley said the 18-wheeler then hit Urbani “while he was down.”

“This is a tragic incident, and we are investigating every lead in order to bring those responsible to justice,” he said in the news release. “We ask anyone who may have been in the area or has dashcam footage to come forward.”

Jackson County Coroner Bruce Lynd Jr. said Urbani was part of the Soldiers of the Cross motorcycle group and had been serving a meal at a women’s group Wednesday night.

Authorities are asking anyone who saw the crash or knows information about the drivers and cars to call the Moss Point Police Department at 228-475-1711 or Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-888-827-4637.
