One dead and suspect charged with murder in St. Martin shooting, authorities say

A man shot Thursday in St. Martin has died and authorities charged a 20-year-old suspect with murder, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.

The sheriff’s department said 23-year-old Raishon Frazier died from his wounds. Authorities raised suspect Quinton Biggs’ charge from attempted murder to murder.

Deputies first responded about 3:30 p.m. Thursday to the Red Roof Inn on Cook Road near Ocean Springs exit 50 and said they found a victim shot several times. A gunman remained at large for several hours Thursday afternoon until police announced the arrest about 8 p.m.

Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter said earlier Thursday evening that investigators had a lead on the gunman and that deputies were actively searching for the suspect. He said investigators had not determined a motive but confirmed the case involved one shooter and one victim.

Authorities said Thursday that the victim’s condition was unknown but that he was transported to a local hospital. The sheriff’s department announced Frazier’s death about 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Biggs was transported to the Jackson County jail and is expected to appear for an initial court hearing on Friday, according to a news release. He is being held without bond.
