5 former St. Martin football stars charged in gang-related shooting, sheriff says

Five former St. Martin High School football standouts are among eight men who have been charged in what the Jackson County sheriff says is a gang-related shooting that left two people injured.

Sheriff Mike Ezell said in a Wednesday release that the group was arguing over rap music when members of two local rival gangs began shooting at each other. The shooting happened near McClellan Road off Washington Avenue in St. Martin.

Two men, Jim Dixon and Quincy Brown, were shot and treated for non-life threatening injuries. All involved were in vehicles during the shooting, according to the release.

Tyler Polk, one of the best players to ever suit up for the Yellow Jackets as a quarterback, and another former St. Martin player, Dixon, were among five men that were announced as arrests on Tuesday.

Polk is charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of shooting into a motor vehicle. His bond is set at $750,000.

Dixon, who has a bond set at $1.25 million, is charged with armed carjacking, aggravated assault and shooting at a motor vehicle.

On Wednesday, three additional former St. Martin football stars were charged in the incident — Jayce Franklin, Keni Williams and Jo’Vawn McGee.

McGee, who is also known as Ham, was a star running back for the Yellow Jackets from 2015-19. He ran 538 times for 3,707 yards and 34 touchdowns during his career. Franklin, who also played basketball, and Williams were both standout linebackers.

McGee, Franklin and Williams, who all played their final season at St. Martin in 2019, were charged with aggravated assault and shooting at a motor vehicle. Bond was set at $750,000 for each.

The other three arrested in the incident are:

Quincy Brown, a 22-year-old from Pascagoula, is charged with aggravated assault, armed carjacking and shooting at a motor vehicle. His bond is set at $1.25 million.

Cedric Porter, a 20-year-old from Ocean Springs, is charged with aggravated assault and shooting into a motor vehicle. His bond is set at $750,000.

20-year-old Jalin Stallworth of Moss Point is charged with aggravated assault and shooting at a motor vehicle. His bond was revoked because he was already bonded out on a prior felony aggravated assault through Moss Point police.
