Long Beach man claims self defense in fatal shooting of roommate, police report says
A Long Beach man claims he was trying to protect himself when he shot and killed his roommate, court records say.
Kenneth J. Sellier, 61, was arrested on a charge of manslaughter in the Feb. 26 shooting death of Brandon N. Bodie, 33.
Sellier told police Bodie had been drinking all day when he started arguing with him and Sellier’s girlfriend, a police report says.
Bodie had become violent, Sellier told police, and at one point Sellier said he heard his girlfriend yell at his roommate to keep his hands off of her.
Bodie walked into Sellier’s and hit him in the head behind his left ear, he said.
Sellier then grabbed a gun he kept by his bed and warned Bodie to back off, but said Bodie “bowed up” instead, the report said.
He fired three rounds at his roommate.
When police got the home on North Seashore Avenue, they found Bodie’s body on the bedroom floor.
