Man wounded in shootout with Hancock deputies identified, arrested, sheriff says

A Kiln man who shot at sheriff’s deputies in his driveway in the Jordan River Ranchettes community last week was arrested Tuesday, according to a news release from the Hancock County sheriff’s office.

Mark McMaster, who was wounded in the exchange of gunfire on Jan. 27, faces two charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

McMaster has been at a New Orleans hospital recovering from his wounds since the shooting.

Hancock Chief Deputy Jeremy Skinner said McMaster was taken into custody after he was released from the hospital.

McMaster is being held at the Orleans Parish prison awaiting extradition to Hancock County.

The shooting happened on Crazy Horse Drive off Mississippi 603, near the Dixieland feed store. McMaster was the only person wounded.

Skinner told the Sun Herald last week that McMaster began shooting at deputies as they responded to a disturbance call at his home.
