Man flown to hospital after shootout with Hancock deputies in Kiln neighborhood
A man who shot at Hancock County sheriff’s deputies responding to a 911 call was wounded in a shootout and was flown by helicopter to a hospital, said Hancock Chief Deputy Jeremy Skinner.
Skinner said sheriff’s deputies were called to the home on Crazy Horse Drive in reference to a disturbance just before 7 p.m. Monday.
The home is in the Jordan River Ranchettes neighborhood off Mississippi 603 across from the Dixieland feed store.
As deputies pulled into the man’s driveway, he began firing shots at law enforcement’s vehicles, Skinner said, and deputies returned fire.
The man suffered at least one gunshot wound and was taken by Flight Care helicopter to an area hospital for treatment. His condition was not known Monday night, Skinner said.
No deputies were wounded in the shooting.
Skinner said the man was the only person at the home at the time of the shooting.
Rumors were circulating on Facebook that alleged more people were shot and there was a manhunt underway. Skinner said those posts are not true.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations and the Mississippi Crime Lab are on the scene. MBI will handle the investigation since it was an officer-involved shooting, Skinner said.
