2 dead, 1 in critical condition, Bayside man arrested after Bay shooting, carjackings

Two people are dead and another is in critical condition after a Wednesday night shooting in Bay St. Louis.

Cheyanne Schultz, of Kiln, died at Ochsner Hancock Medical Center after she was shot in the parking lot of Bay Park Apartments along with three others, Hancock County Coroner Jim Faulk said.

23-year-old Morgan Landry died Thursday morning at a New Orleans hospital.

One of the people injured in the shooting remain in critical condition, and one has been released with non-life threatening injuries, according to a Bay St. Louis Police Department news release.

Police have identified 23-year-old Jason Michel as the alleged shooter. They said he left the scene in a stolen vehicle and drove toward the highway. Michel stopped at Keith’s Superstore at the intersection of Kiln-Waveland Cutoff Road and Mississippi 603 and stole another vehicle at gunpoint, police said.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office later took Michel into custody without incident in the Bayside Park community.

Sheriff Ricky Adam told the Sun Herald Michel was found at his residence covered in blood.

He was arrested on charges of murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, carjacking and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

He also has a pending carjacking charge with the Waveland Police Department.

His bond has been set at $3.6 million, the release said.
