A Harrison County home was destroyed in a fire Tuesday afternoon after it was struck by lightning, Harrison County Fire Services Chief Pat Sullivan said.
Heavy flames were coming from the two-story brick house on Lake Vista Drive.
The house next door is said to have taken damage as well but firefighters were able to prevent any further damage. No one was home when the fire started and no injuries were reported.
Twenty-one firefighters and 12 trucks from Harrison County, the Gulfport Fire Department and the Combat Readiness Training Center responded to the fire, which took more than an hour to get under control.
