City officials in Biloxi are considering making a mile-long stretch of the beach between Oak Street and the Biloxi Small Craft Harbor a fireworks-free zone for the Fourth of July.
Mayor Andrew Gilich said the beach there is a natural amphitheater for the fireworks show that is shot from near Deer Island.
Safety can be an issue for those who want to watch the show while others are shooting their own fireworks on the beach.
Residents can give their opinions of the proposal on the city's website at Biloxi.ms.us. In early voting, on Wednesday, 27 people, which was 87 percent of respondents, agree with creating the tax-free zone.
