About the criminal cases

A Harrison County grand jury in the Gulfport division of Circuit Court considered 551 criminal cases during a six-month term that began in September. The disposition of cases in a grand jury report provided by the District Attorney's Office:

-- True bills: 379 indicted (52 indictments returned with habitual offender status, 28 returned with enhanced penalties)

-- No true bills: 115 cases with insufficient evidence to indict

-- Cases docketed in error: 7

-- Returned to law enforcement: 32

-- Partial report: 1 (ruled a Gulfport police officer took appropriate action by firing at and wounding a knife-wielding man on July 1)

-- Cases passed to next grand jury: 17
