2,000 without power in Harrison County

GULFPORT -- Power outages affected more than 2,000 homes in Gulfport and Biloxi in the wake of severe thunderstorms that swept through the area Monday afternoon.

The main outages occurred in downtown Gulfport -- affecting about 1,400 Mississippi Power customers just east of U.S. 49 near Beach Boulevard -- and in Biloxi -- affecting about 500 customers near Keesler Air Force Base.

According to the company's website, utility crews restored power to most of the homes in Gulfport and Biloxi by about 8 p.m.
