US 49 lanes open after 6-car pileup that killed 2
A six-vehicle crash in Gulfport on Wednesday killed two people and sent three others to a hospital, said Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman MSgt. B.J. Seibert.
“We have two with moderate injuries and one with life-threatening injuries,” Seibert said.
The wreck occurred on U.S. 49 South just north of Mississippi 53. State troopers and Gulfport police had sent media alerts just after 4:30 p.m., saying the southbound lanes of U.S. 49 were closed.
The injured were taken to Garden Park Medical Center, Seibert said. Authorities had the highway cleared and the lanes reopened by 6:45 p.m.
