Gulfport doing drainage work around Courthouse Road
GULFPORT -- The city expects portions of Hancock and Texas avenues off Courthouse Road to be closed over the next few weeks as box culverts are installed under the roads.
The work is part of a project to improve drainage from Courthouse to Hancock to support an expanded Gulfport High School, Public Works Director Wayne Miller said.
As part of the project, Miller said, culverts have been replaced under Courthouse Road. He said the box culverts being installed will support heavier flow than did the smaller, round pipe they will replace.
He estimated the total project cost at $100,000 to $120,000.
The city also is cleaning out and widening a ditch between 31st and 32nd streets. Miller said the ditch will remain within the current city easement, but the city does plan to secure rights of entry from about 40 affected residents in case workers have to go onto those adjacent properties.
Miller expects all the drainage work to be completed within a few months.
