LONG BEACH -- A woman has been arrested after police found the body of a man in a container at a Long Beach residence, officials said.

Christy Zarrella, 63, was arrested on charges of tampering of evidence and failure to report a death to the medical examiner.

Long Beach Police Chief Wayne McDowell said she was not related to the man but both of them lived at the home on South Seal Avenue.

Police found the body, McDowell said, while following up on a missing-person report filed Monday afternoon.

"They smelled something in the air," he said of the investigating officers.

McDowell said they are treating it as a homicide investigation, pending autopsy.

Zarrella is being taken to the Harrison County jail on a $250,000 bond set by Judge Diane Ladner.
