D'IBERVILLE -- Police are investigating the discovery of human skeletal remains found Wednesday in woods on Mallet Road just across the street from Keesler Federal Credit Union.
A man was returning from shopping at a strip mall on Mallett Road when he noticed a tent in some woods along his path. He checked on the tent and discovered the remains, D'Iberville Police Chief Wayne Payne said.
"He had gone to the store, and he was returning home and walked into the woods and saw the tent," Payne said. "Once he saw the skeletal remains, he notified the D'Iberville Police Department."
Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said the body appeared to be that of an adult.

Payne said there were no apparent signs of foul play and could not say if the person had been homeless.
The area where the body was found is not commonly frequented by the homeless community.
The body is being sent to Jackson for an autopsy.
