Coroner identifies Coast man killed in crash at railroad tracks in Biloxi

William Goodwin, 57, was killed Friday when the vehicle he was driving was struck by a train on Oak Street in Biloxi, according to Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer.

Lt. Candace Young, a spokesperson for the police department, said that video from the scene shows the railroad gates were working properly and that the car drove around them in an attempt to beat the train.

Goodwin, from Gulfport, was the only person in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Goodwin was driving a Hyndai sedan, according to Switzer.

Oak Street is closed while the investigation and crash reconstruction continue. Officials are asking drivers to avoid the area.
