South Mississippi councilman hospitalized after injury at home
Gulfport counilman Ron Roland suffered a head injury at his home over the weekend and is in the hospital, his son Justin Roland posted Monday on Facebook.
His father is in intensive care after a fall at his home Saturday, Justin said on behalf of himself, his sister, Jessica Dragan, and brother, Preston Roland.
“First, thank you for the calls, texts and visits this weekend. You love and support mean the world to our family,” he said.
No visitors are allowed in the intensive care unit, he said, and he will continue to provide updates to the community.
The city said in a statement Monday afternoon that Roland: “is in critical but stable condition and is receiving excellent medical care from dedicated healthcare professionals. While we remain hopeful and optimistic about his recovery, we understand that healing from such injuries requires time and patience.”
Mayor Hugh Keating said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Councilman Roland and his family during this difficult time. Ron has been a dedicated public servant to our community, and we are committed to supporting him and his family in any way we can.”
City operations will continue uninterrupted while Roland is hospitalized, the statement said.
Roland represents Ward 2 in Gulfport and recently won another 4-years term.
“Hello Neighbors,” he posted on Facebook after the win. “Just a quick note to express my thanks for your support during the Primary election. I am very happy that I won by an 80% margin!”
He grew up in Gulfport and graduated from Gulfport High School and studied at the University of New Orleans.
