Coroner identifies victims of 3 separate fatal crashes on Mississippi Coast

Three people died in separate crashes on Sunday and early Monday across the Mississippi Coast.

Leonardo Ricco, 45, of Biloxi died Sunday night on the Popp’s Ferry Bridge, Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer said.

Ricco was driving north when a car coming south hit him, the coroner said. He died at the scene of blunt force trauma.

Authorities also responded to a crash at 1:07 a.m. Monday on Interstate 10, between Diamondhead and Kiln Delisle Road. Switzer said a car traveling east drove into a lane closed for construction and hit a backhoe. The stretch of I-10 is under construction, and Switzer said only one lane was open overnight.

The driver, 75-year-old Antonio Guell of Florida, died at the scene.

A motorcyclist also died around 5:17 a.m. Monday in Gulfport, Switzer said. He identified the victim as Reese Shavers, 58, of Perkinston.

Shavers was driving south on Cowan-Lorraine Road, just south of Seaway Road, when he collided with another car, Switzer said. He died at the scene.
