Coroner identifies semi-truck driver who died in rollover on Interstate 10 on MS Coast
One person died after a semi-truck rolled over Thursday in a crash that shut down all westbound lanes of Interstate 10 in Biloxi, authorities said.
Police were called to the crash around 11:40 a.m., said Sgt. Candace Young, a public information officer for Biloxi Police.
Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer identified the driver as Kendrick May, 36, of Mobile.
Switzer said May veered off the road in the far right lane then over corrected, rolled over and lost control. He said May was a delivery driver for a steel company in Alabama who was on the Coast making deliveries on Thursday. Switzer also said May was not wearing a seat belt.
Young said the crash closed all westbound lanes of traffic after the Cedar Lake Road exit. The city said in a text alert after 2:40 p.m. that the interstate had reopened.
Authorities said no other cars were involved in the crash and that May was the only person inside the semi-truck.
The crash closed the westbound interstate for about three hours because authorities needed to clear the semi-truck and reconstruct the accident scene for an investigation, Young said.
Before that, law enforcement was redirecting drivers to exit at Cedar Lake Road and encouraging them to exit on Interstate 110 and avoid the backup altogether.
