Dog dies after MS Coast authorities called to home engulfed in flames, fire chief says

A house caught fire Wednesday afternoon in Gulfport, killing one dog, Gulfport Fire Chief Billy Kelley said.

Crews were called to the home on Creel Circle around 11:40 a.m. They found half the house engulfed in flames but controlled it “within minutes,” Kelley said.

The dog died from the fire but no other injuries were reported, according to Kelley. There was at least one woman inside the house, he said, but residents had escaped the home before authorities arrived.

Kelley said crews controlled the fire by 11:55 a.m.

“We’re just putting out some hotspots,” he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
