Coroner identifies Gulfport man struck & killed by vehicle while sitting on bench

The young man killed after being struck by a car on Monday while sitting on a bench beside U.S. 90 has been identified as D’Ante Burks, 25, of Gulfport.

Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer said that Burks was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Gulfport after the accident, where he was pronounced dead at 1:30 p.m. Monday from blunt force trauma.

The Gulfport Police Department has not released any details about the accident, which closed the highway in both directions for a period of time Monday afternoon. The Sun Herald will update this story when more information is available.
