A 10-year-old was one of two people rescued after being spotted on a capsized boat near Cat Island Sunday.

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued the girl and a man, 31, about three miles southwest of the Mississippi barrier island at around 6:46 p.m.

Those who were standing watch at Coast Guard Station Gulfport launched a 29-foot response boat and small boat crew to assist.

Officials also requested help from the Civil Air Patrol to quickly locate the capsized boat.

Crew members rescued the man and child and transported them to Pass Christian. No injuries were reported.
