Search team recovers body of man who jumped into the water from old Biloxi marina site

The body of a man witnesses saw jump into the Mississippi Sound from the Biloxi Beach on Monday night has been recovered.

“He was found in Broadwater Marina, probably about 50 or 60 yards from where he went down,” said Coroner Brian Switzer.

The identity of the body will be released pending notification of next-of-kin. Switzer said the drowning would be ruled an accident.

Biloxi police responded to the 2100 block of Beach Boulevard around 7 p.m. after receiving a call about a potential drowning.

Witnesses in the area saw a person jump into the Mississippi Sound near the old Broadwater Hotel and Marina site and never resurface, police said in a press release.

Members of Biloxi police’s dive team deployed into the water but could not locate the victim Monday night. Police and Fire Department rescue boats were also at the scene.

The search resumed on Tuesday, and that’s when the man’s body was found.
