The City of Gulfport has opened 14 dumpsters — two in each ward — for residents to dump large debris or trash piles that won’t be taken during routine trash and debris pick-up.

On May 1, the city will enforce a new rule when non-approved items are left in debris piles outside of a home or business. If non-approved items are in a debris pile, Gulfport code enforcement will begin to issue citations.

Non-approved debris items include:

  • Mattresses and furniture
  • Tires and engine parts
  • Home appliances
  • Contractor or commercial debris

These items, however, can be taken by residents to the dumpsters now placed around the city. They will be available through May 12, the city said.

Hazard waste and white goods — appliances like washers and dryers — cannot be placed in the dumpsters, the city said.
