Coroner identifies pedestrian hit and killed by car on Seaway Road in Gulfport

Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer has identified the Gulfport man killed after being hit by a car on Seaway Road Monday night.

The call of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle came in about 7:15 p.m.

Lester Wayne Luper, 35, was heading east on Seaway Road when he was struck by a car also heading east. The fatal crash occurred just east of Three Rivers Road, Switzer said.

Luper was pronounced dead on scene of blunt force trauma, Switzer said.

Luper was traveling on a bicycle, but it wasn’t clear if he was pedaling or had stopped to make a repair at the time of the crash, Switzer said.

The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene, Switzer said.

The Gulfport Police Department is investigating.
