Body found in Gulfport identified as 75-year-old woman missing since March
A body found Wednesday in Gulfport was identified as Dorothy Jean Burks, a 75-year-old local resident who was reported missing in March.
Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer confirmed the identity on Friday.
Gulfport police issued a missing person alert for Burks last month after she was last seen near the 16000 block of Fifth Street on March 23.
Her body was found in the woods behind a residence on Keebler Road in Lyman, WXXV-TV reported.
Switzer said Burks had died within 24 hours of her going missing. The cause of death is still pending but no foul play is suspected.
