Coast Coliseum forced to cancel ice skating just before New Year’s holiday weekend

One of the most popular winter events on the Mississippi Coast is being cut short just before the New Year’s holiday weekend due to an equipment malfunction.

The Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center has canceled ice skating through the end of the season, which is Sunday. This includes New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day time slots.

Brandon Cuevas, special events marketing manager for the Coast Coliseum, said in a press release late Thursday that the Zamboni machine used to resurface the ice broke. The Seawolves hosted a sold-out hockey game on the rink on Thursday night.

“We are unable to repair it and can no longer provide safe ice to skate on,” Cuevas said in the release. “We are incredibly sorry for any inconvenience. This is not how we wanted to end this year’s season.”

Cuevas said the Coast Coliseum will offer ice skating to the public for the 2022 winter season.
