Gulfport man was lying between the tracks when he was hit by a train
An autopsy will be performed Tuesday on a Gulfport man who was hit and killed by a train.
Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer said Michael Freed, 39, of Gulfport was hit and killed by a westbound CSX train.
Gulfport police said the collision happened near Cowan Road, near Collins Boulevard and Curcor Drive.
The conductor said the man was lying between the rails when he was hit, Switzer said.
An emergency shut-down was activated at 3:20 a.m., he said.
The autopsy will be done to rule out any foul play, Switzer said.
