Man was celebrating birthday when he fell from top of Biloxi casino parking garage

Biloxi Police responded to a 911 call Friday at 11 p.m. saying someone fell from the top of the parking garage at Hard Rock Casino Biloxi.

Police recovered the body of a man, 45, from the waters of the Biloxi Small Craft Harbor. He had severe head trauma and obvious broken bones, according to the police report.

The man, identified as Joseph Baynes of Daphne, Alabama, died of blunt force trauma, said Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer.

Witnesses said the man spent the evening at the casino and he and his friends were returning to their vehicle, parked on the top floor of the parking garage. They said the man jumped up onto the top of a support pillar and stumbled, falling to the ground below.

Switzer said Baynes, his wife and another couple were in Biloxi celebrating the victim’s birthday.

Police said no foul play is suspected, but the investigation is ongoing.

No autopsy will be performed, Switzer said, but blood was drawn for toxicology.
