The Biloxi Doll and Toy Fund is hoping to raise $13,000 through an online fundraiser so that it can continue to give toys to needy children at Christmas.

The group has given gifts to children for more than 75 years, but it reports that the fund is low, so it is starting early this year to raise money through RedBasket.org.

“We believe every child deserves to receive gifts during the holidays,” said Steven Broussard, president of the organization.

The group identifies children in need through their schools, and the children take forms home to their families to fill out so each child in the home receives gifts. The Doll and Toy Fund volunteers then estimate how many toys they’ll need to buy.

“Each year, we have to purchase between 1,600 and 1,800 toys to ensure each child receives something,” Broussard said.

This fundraiser will be online through Feb. 17.

Whether it's for a birthday or Giving Tuesday, giving a gift to someone can feel great. It turns out there's a reason for that, and it starts with your brain.
