Train sounded its horn but woman stayed on the tracks and died, police say.
A Gulfport woman walking on railroad tracks in Biloxi died when she was struck by a train between Veterans and McDonnell avenues, police said.
Police received a call at 9:46 a.m. Sunday reporting a pedestrian had been hit by a train, Biloxi Police Maj. Christopher De Back said.
The pedestrian, a woman, is believed to be 43 years old, De Back said.
“She was walking westbound in front of a westbound train and did not get off the tracks,” he said.
“The train’s conductor sounded the horn and put on emergency brakes and could not stop from hitting her,” he said.
It does not appear that she was wearing headphones listening to music or otherwise distracted, De Back said.
The Harrison County Coroner’s Office will release her identity after her family has been notified, he said.
SunHerald.com will update this report when her name is released.
