Coroner identifies woman killed in Thursday train crash
Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove has identified a woman who was killed in a train crash Thursday near Edgewater Mall in Biloxi.
Hargrove said Shauna Lapen, 39, of Biloxi, died from blunt force trauma after being struck by a train while she was on the tracks.
She was hit just before 9:40 a.m. as the train traveled eastbound.
The death is the second train-related fatality on the Mississippi Coast in about three weeks. That’s the day Pascagoula police said a homeless man was struck and killed while sitting on railroad tracks near Hospital Road on Sept. 21.
In March, four people died and 40 others were injured when a charter bus crossed Biloxi’s Main Street tracks at a steep incline and was unable to get off the tracks before it was struck by a train.
Hargrove said Biloxi police are investigating the Thursday crash.
