Two dead in Hancock County interstate wreck

HANCOCK COUNTY -- Two people have died in a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 10, which closed both westbound lanes and backed up traffic.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol confirmed the fatalities Monday night.

MHP spokesman Chase Elkins said the wreck occurred about 9:16 p.m. on I-10 westbound near mile marker 2.

Other people involved in the accident were taken to a local hospital with injuries, he said.

Both westbound lanes remain closed until the wreck is cleared. The eastbound lanes were not affected.
