One person airlifted to hospital after box truck, 18-wheeler crash near MS-LA state line
One person was taken by helicopter for treatment of severe injuries Wednesday after a wreck between a box truck and a semi-truck on Interstate 10.
According to Calvin Robertson with Mississippi Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. A box truck and a semi-truck collided at the two-mile marker in the westbound lanes of Interstate 10, he said.
The interstate was briefly shut down as the driver of the box truck was airlifted out with severe injuries.
The accident happened two miles east of where road crews are working to repair the East Pearl River Bridge after major accidents damaged the bridge. Major congestion has been affecting the area on I-10 westbound near the Louisiana state line in Hancock County as the right lane is closed at the East Pearl River Bridge until July 21.
Lane closures and traffic delays are expected to continue in the area until Aug. 11 while repairs are made on the bridge.
