Two die in George County fire during night that brought multiple emergency events
Two people died in a house fire in George County early Friday morning as law enforcement and other first responders dealt with several emergency situations overnight.
The fire was reported to the county communications center at 6 a.m. Friday. The home is in the 100 block of Greenwood Dr. in the Barton community of George County.
The victims will be identified once their family is notified.
Authorities already responded to an officer-involved shooting in George County late Thursday night and a vehicle accident at the same time as the fire.
Because of extremely dry conditions and the possibility of the fire spreading, multiple units were requested.
Responding to the scene were units from Basin, Central, and Twin Creek Volunteer Fire Departments from District Three; Movella and Agricola VFD from District Two, and a tanker truck from Northeast Jackson County Fire District.
ASAP EMS Service and George County deputies also responded.
The Mississippi State Fire Marshal’s office is assisting the George County Fire investigator in this incident.
