Here’s what’s going on this week in South Mississippi
Fundraising events for charitable and community organizations highlight this week’s entertainment options.
Thursday, the Steps Coalition fundraiser titled “Stress Free Mind — Happy Heart,” an interactive and research-based forum in which meditation, yoga and myofascial release are used to decrease heart disease and stress, will begin at 5:30 p.m. with wine and cheese, followed by the program from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Biloxi Visitors Center. A $10 donation is requested but is not required.
The forum will feature medical practitioners with the latest research to demonstrate and teach the methods and help participants to perform the techniques.
Kay Denault of the Mental Health Association of South Mississippi will host a writing exercise to help integrate the three methods into the participants’ lives.
Guest presenters in the meditation segment are Dr. Liana Rodriguez, internal medicine, and David Painter, yoga teacher.
Presenters in the yoga segment are Hope Landis, nurse practitioner and yoga teacher, and Moira Anderson, yoga teacher.
Presenters in the myofascial release segment are Jackie Castro-Cooper, master of physical therapy, and Ophelia Abrahams, occupational therapist.
