‘Swamp pop,’ circus thrills spice up the week
Events this weekend will offer spicy music and yet another exciting glimpse of the theatrical circus sensation with Bello Nock and others of the BraVeau production.
On Saturday at 10:30 a.m., Lynn Meadows Discovery Center in Gulfport will present a special mini-performance by Bello Nock and other performers of BraVeau. The performance will be included with museum admission. Giveaways and special discounts will also be given for the BraVeau show, which is being presented by the Beau Rivage through Aug. 7. DreamCast Entertainment's theatrical circus features internationally renowned cast of acrobats, aerialists, dancers and stunt performers from Russia, Mongolia and other areas. The international acts include trapeze performers, precision acrobatics, hand-balancing artistry, the Wheel of Wonder, dance routines, the Sphere of Fear motorcycle globe, contortionists and comedic interludes by some of Europe's favorite clowns.
From 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Waylon Thibodeaux, Louisiana’s rockin’ fiddler, will perform at the 100 Men Hall, 303 Union St., Bay St. Louis.
Thibodeaux, a Louisiana native and self-taught performer, was born in the “bayou country.” His music is described as a mixture of Cajun zydeco with a pinch of New Orleans’ sound, South Louisiana “swamp pop” with a taste of country and rock ‘n’ roll. Before Thibodeaux’s performance, from noon to 1 p.m., Cajun dance instructors Glenn and Lori from Slidell will offer free dance classes. Jambalaya bowls will be served, courtesy of Silver Slipper Casino and Resort, for $5. Tickets: $10. Details: 228-342-5770 or 100menhall.org.
