Will MS Coast see snow soon? Here’s the forecast for the remaining winter season
After a historic winter storm blanketed the Mississippi Coast last January, this winter has felt relatively warm. But the season is not over yet, so the question remains: will snow return to the Coast this year?
Here’s what the rest of the winter will look like this year, according to weather experts.
January, February and March predictions from the Farmers’ Almanac
Mississippi and other states in the Southeast are expected to see “average temperatures with many wet periods” throughout the winter, according to the Farmers’ Almanac.
Snow flurries are possible in northern regions of the Southeast between Jan. 28 and 31 and again in parts of North Carolina and Tennessee between Feb. 8 and 11, according to the weather prediction.
The coastal areas of the Southeast, however, are more likely to just see rain, the Almanac shows.
Predictions from National Weather Service and AccuWeather experts
The National Weather Service anticipates seeing higher temperatures than normal for Mississippi and most of the Southeast from January through March 2026, according to experts.
UPDATE: There is a “low chance” of snow coming to southern Mississippi on Jan. 17 at night, the NWS said in a Jan. 15 post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Southern states are predicted to experience warmer-than-average temperatures for most of the winter, according to AccuWeather experts.
“The Gulf Coast and parts of the Southeast should run above historical averages on temperatures, and below on precipitation,” said Paul Pastelok, AccuWeather lead long-range meteorologist.
Nevertheless, a blast of Arctic air around late January or early February could raise the risk of snow and ice, Pastelok said.
This time period has the highest potential for the polar vortex to move south, according to AccuWeather long-range forecasters.
