Watch live: Funeral services for fallen Bay St. Louis police officers
Four days before Christmas, flags across the state fly at half staff and the city of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi is shrouded in black and police blue as two officers are mourned and buried.
Today’s double funeral comes a week after Officer Branden Estorffe, 23 and Sgt. Steven Robin, 34, died in a shoot-out in the Motel 6 parking lot on U.S. 90 in Bay St. Louis while responding to a welfare call.
Law enforcement officers from across the region are driving to Bay St. Louis in cars, trucks and SUVs, to remember and honor the fallen officers.
The Sun Herald will provide details, video and photos throughout the day. Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. until noon at the Bay St. Louis Community Hall, 301 Blaize Ave.
The joint funeral service begins at noon.
Those who can’t make it to Bay St. Louis in person can watch the services online.
WXXV-TV, Sun Herald’s media partner, will have footage from the services in their 12 p.m. newscast. A live stream of the services will start around 12:30 p.m. You can watch here.
- WLOX-TV will live stream the services here. It will likely begin soon after their 11:00 a.m. newscast.
Once the services conclude, the most emotional part of the day begins as a law enforcement procession escorts the officers to Gardens of Memory Cemetery for graveside services.
People with flags and tears will stand to salute the officers and their sacrifices as the two caskets are driven along the beach and onto U.S. 90 as law enforcement officers follow in final tribute.
At the cemetery, the service generally includes the presentation of flags to the families of the officers, a gun salute, the playing of “Taps” and the final call — this time twice — as the dispatcher does a radio call-out to each officer, with no response.
