A Match 5 lottery ticket worth more than $500,000 was sold in South MS. That’s a record.

One person matched all five numbers to win $524,976 — the largest jackpot won by a single person in the nearly year-old Mississippi Match 5 lottery game.

The winning ticket was sold at at Ramey’s at 100 U.S. 11 North in Poplarville.

The winner had yet to come forward when Mississippi Lottery Corporation released details of the win Wednesday afternoon.

On Thursday, a Poplarville man claimed the prize. He has been playing Mississippi Lottery games since the beginning but switched to exclusively playing Mississippi Match 5 when it was introduced.

He told Mississippi Lottery officials he always chooses Quick Pick for his numbers and purchases his tickets at Ramey’s.

He won on the numbers numbers 02-13-15-19-28.

A bigger Match 5 jackpot of a $665,000 hit in July 2021, but it was split by two players from Jones and a Lamar counties.

The 5-digit draw game began in April 2021. Unlike Powerball and Mega Millions, which are played in most states across the country, Mississippi Match 5 is an in-state game.

Match 5 drawings are three nights a week on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Players select five numbers from 1-35 or use quick-pick. Each ticket is $2. After the win, the jackpot resets at $50,000.

A $200,000 jackpot was won in November on a free ticket in Hurley, Jackson County.
