Mississippi’s COVID-19 numbers dip on Monday. One death reported on the Coast.
Mississippi’s state health department released its lowest single-day count of new COVID-19 cases since July 13 on Monday, announcing 476 cases.
It marked the state’s third consecutive Monday of fewer than 700 cases.
The seven-day average for new COVID-19 cases dipped to 932 — the smallest figure since July 19.
The state announced 16 new deaths. It marks the 13th time in the last 14 days that the state has announced double-digit deaths, pushing the state’s total this year to 1,912.
The lone South Mississippi COVID-19 death included in Monday’s numbers was in Jackson County. The death was one of nine that were the result of the health department reviewing death certificate reports from July 13-Aug 2.
The 45 new cases announced for the state’s southernmost six counties is the smallest count since the same total was released on July 27. The seven-day average in South Mississippi stands at 127.86.
The health department did not immediately update its hospitalization data on Monday. As of Aug. 7, there were 978 people hospitalized with confirmed cases of the coronavirus.
