Health Department: Mississippi sees another 914 COVID-19 cases and 11 deaths

Another 914 new coronavirus cases and 11 deaths are confirmed in Mississippi, bringing the total number of cases to 29,684 and 1,085 deaths as of Friday, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health.

Harrison and Jackson counties continued to see an increase in numbers, with 842 cases and 10 deaths in Harrison and 584 cases and 16 deaths in Jackson County.

Of the 11 new deaths, none were reported in the lower six southern-most counties.

The MSDH’s report said outbreaks of coronavirus in long-term facilities rose to 2,712.

Total cases by county are:

George — 78 (3 new)

Hancock — 126 (3 new)

Harrison — 84 (78 new)

Jackson — 557 (27 new)

Pearl River — 245 (3 new)

Stone — 57 (3 new)

The state saw more than 800 new cases a day earlier.

Cities across South Mississippi are providing masks to residents to help slow the spread of coronavirus. Biloxi police and firefighters distributed masks to residents Friday.

Mask are available through the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency at the Biloxi Visitors Center on U.S. 90.

In Hancock County masks are donated to the public at the Bay St. Louis Fire Department, 543 Main St., at Diamondhead City Hall and Fire Department, and at the Emergency Operations Center at 18333 Mississippi 603 in Kiln.
