Mississippi announces 680 new COVID-19 cases. Coast has 1st death in a week.
The state department of health reported 680 new cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi on Tuesday, keeping up the trend of a major increase over a month ago.
As of Tuesday, the seven-day average for new coronavirus cases stood at 621. A month ago on May 30, the average was 318.
MSDH also reported 14 new deaths on Tuesday with one in Harrison County — the first reported in the state’s southernmost six counties since June 23.
Harrison County continues to lead the way in new COVID-19 cases in the area with 31 announced on Tuesday.
The number of people hospitalized in Mississippi with a confirmed COVID-19 reached 560 — the highest total since June 9. There were also 219 people hospitalized with suspected cases.
As of Monday, there were 167 people in intensive care units due to the coronavirus. That’s the highest mark since the state announced 165 on June 17.
The state’s totals stand at 27,247 cases of COVID-19 and 1,073 deaths.
There have been 19,388 presumed recoveries in Mississippi.
There have been 299,511 tests performed, 11,965, or about 4%, of which were antibody tests.
