Harrison County cases surge as MS has over 500 new coronavirus cases for 4th day in a row
For the fourth day in a row, Mississippi on Friday reported more than 500 new coronavirus cases.
A day after setting a new high of 1,092 additional cases, the state health department announced 550 more cases — the third highest single-day total since the state started releasing numbers on March 11.
Harrison County continues to pull away from the rest of the counties in South Mississippi in total cases. After 48 were reported on Thursday, there were 45 on Friday to bring the county’s total to 607.
There were a total of 769 patients with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 who were hospitalized state-wide as of Thursday. There were 153 in intensive care with 90 on ventilators.
State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs said at a last-minute press conference Thursday that the state has seen its highest number of hospitalized patients over the past few days.
There has only been one coronavirus-related death reported in the state’s southernmost six counties since June 17. There have been 72 total deaths reported in the area.
