South Mississippi has 42 new coronavirus cases over weekend, over half in Harrison County

Sunday

MSDH on Sunday reported 168 new coronavirus cases and 2 new deaths.

In the lower six counties of South Mississippi, there were 16 new cases and no new deaths, bringing the weekend’s total to 42 new cases.

Harrison County continues to have the biggest increase in cases, with 25 of the weekend’s 42 new cases.

Stone and George counties had no new reported cases this weekend.

Here are the total cases by county:

George County - 35 (0 new)

Hancock County - 100 (0 new)

Harrison County - 344 - (9 new)

Jackson County - 356 (6 new)

Pearl River County - 222 (1 new)

Stone County - 34 (0 new)

Saturday

The Mississippi State Department of Health on Saturday reported 257 new coronavirus cases and 8 new deaths.

The lower six counties had 26 new cases. Most of them, 16, are in Harrison County, which has seen the sharpest increase in new cases over the past week.

Although Moss Point and Jackson County were a hot spot for the virus early on in the pandemic, Harrison County is now nearing the same number of total cases.

There are no new deaths in South Mississippi.

Jackson County - 350 (6 new)

Pearl River County - 221 (2 new)

Stone County - 34 (0 new)
