Gulfport mayor lifts coronavirus curfew. Here are the details.

Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes is lifting a citywide curfew in place since March 31 to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The emergency proclamation lifting the curfew comes hours ahead of Gov. Tate Reeves’ regularly scheduled weekday news conference, where he is expected to further ease statewide coronavirus restrictions.

The mayor issued a proclamation Friday morning immediately lifting the curfew that ran from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily.

Hewes said in his order Friday morning that the city and residents need to continue safeguards against the spread of COVID-19, but he does not believe a curfew is necessary any longer to protect public health and safety.

Other restrictions remain in force, including limiting restaurants to curbside and delivery only, and a reduced number of customers in retail businesses that are open.
