Jackson County Chamber will name Anchor Award winners Wednesday

The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce will name the winners of the eighth annual Anchor Awards on Wednesday morning.

The awards honor the county’s outstanding small businesses and nonprofits.

“Having this program allows the chamber to showcase businesses that are ‘anchors’ of the local community,” the chamber said in a press release.

The top businesses and nonprofits in each category will be announced at the awards ceremony at Pelican Landing in Moss Point.

The following businesses have been nominated:

Small Business Category 1: Allstate Insurance’s Joe Millette Agency, Belk of Gautier; Cable One, Express Employment Professionals, Friends BarBQue and Catering, Gibson Electric Motor Sales & Service, Nextaff Gulf Coast, Physical Therapy Center of Ocean Springs/WorkReady! and Rainbow Spring Water.

Small Business Category 2: Chancellor Inc., Merchants & Marine Bank, Singing River Federal Credit Union and Team Waste of Mississippi.

Rookie Business: Brenda Thompson State Farm Insurance, Gourmet Gurl, Hornet Link.com and Whimsy Books & Toys.

Nonprofit: Jackson County CASA, Jackson-George Regional Library System, Kiwanis Club of Pascagoula, Pascagoula River Audubon Center and Walter Anderson Museum of Art.

The keynote speaker will be Lori A. Harper, vice president of supply chain management at Ingalls Shipbuilding.

Chairwoman for the event is Jen Dearman, Pascagoula’s director of community and economic development.
