SBA will celebrate state's Small Business Person of Year

Janita Stewart, district director of the Mississippi U.S. Small Business Administration, will join government and business leaders to honor the Mississippi Small Business Person of the Year, Business Champions and Top Lenders at the 2016 Small Business Week award event on Tuesday at the Old Capitol Inn in Jackson.

Winners from South Mississippi:

-- Small Business Person of the Year: Michael Pornovets, owner of Everything Kayak in Gulfport

-- Veterans Small Business Champion: Natalie Guess with Magnolia Business Alliance, Diamondhead

-- Minority Small Business Champion: Sidney Rushing with Gaston Point Community Development Corp., Gulfport

-- Women Business Champion: Dorothy Wilson with DWilson and Associates, Gulfport

Lender awards will be presented to Community Bank of Mississippi, Trustmark National Bank and Peoples Bank.
